Afterwordmail Takes Aim at the Email Mistakes Businesses Struggle to Correct

Sending an email with an incorrect invoice number, outdated price or wrong payment instruction can create a second problem almost immediately: how to make sure everyone sees the correction.

A Lagos-based Nigerian product studio believes it has an answer.

Aurum Digital Consulting Limited has launched Afterwordmail, an email platform that allows senders to make controlled changes to messages after they have been delivered.

Unlike a conventional correction email, the service allows the sender to revise the original content through a link. The subject line and message body can be changed, while attachments can also be replaced, added or removed.

For example, a business that sends an outdated contract can update the document rather than sending another attachment and asking the recipient to determine which version is correct.

A different answer to email recall

The idea is not based on traditional email recall.

Microsoft Outlook and Zoho Mail have recall functions, but these are limited by the environment in which the email is sent. They generally depend on both parties being within the same organisation and using the same mail platform.

That limitation becomes significant when businesses communicate with external customers, suppliers, contractors or partners using different email providers.

Afterwordmail instead gives the recipient a browser-accessible link to content controlled by the sender. Changes made by the sender are reflected at that same link.

Recipients do not need to install software, and the system works regardless of the email provider they use.

Transparency built into the system

Aurum Digital Consulting said it recognised that allowing emails to be changed could raise questions about accountability.

The company therefore designed Afterwordmail around a permanent record of changes.

Messages can be corrected for up to 48 hours after sending. Once the window closes, the content becomes permanently locked.

The platform preserves previous versions and records when each one was replaced. Attachment names are also retained as part of the history.

Recipients receive an email notification whenever a message is changed, while the recorded history cannot be altered or erased by the sender.

Aurum Digital Consulting explained that the distinction between its system and ordinary email is the transparency surrounding the changes.

“The difference is not that we allow edits. It is that ours are recorded,” the company said. “One record, every version kept, every change timestamped, and the recipient told each time something changes.”

 From Lagos to international users

Afterwordmail was developed in Nigeria but is intended for use beyond the Nigerian market.

The company said its local pricing is ₦3,500 per month after a 30-day free trial.

“There is an assumption that software built in Lagos is built only for Lagos,” Aurum Digital Consulting said.

The company argued that the problem addressed by Afterwordmail is shared by businesses regardless of location, whether it is a freelancer in Abuja, an accounting firm in Nairobi or an exporter in London.

According to the company, the platform is currently being used for business communications involving invoices, quotations, payment instructions and event details.

Aurum Digital Consulting’s wider technology focus

Afterwordmail forms part of Aurum Digital Consulting’s broader vertical SaaS strategy.

The Lagos company also develops ClaimLensIQ, which focuses on claims fraud intelligence for Nigerian insurers; WingWatch Nigeria, an aviation consumer rights platform; Football FanIQ, a sports fan intelligence product; and InsightEx, a capital markets intelligence dashboard covering the Nigerian Exchange.

The company says its approach is to develop specialised software for industries where generic international products may not adequately address local requirements.

Afterwordmail is available directly from Aurum Digital Consulting Limited, with new users offered a 30-day free trial.
