The recognition followed the initiative held on October 9, 2026, at Afokang Custodial Centre in Calabar, Cross River State, where Nollywood actress and humanitarian, Queeneth Agbor, celebrated her birthday with inmates through a programme focused on rehabilitation, vocational empowerment and reintegration into society.

The initiative went beyond the provision of food to offer practical support aimed at helping inmates acquire skills, rebuild their lives and prepare for life after incarceration. It also facilitated the release of two inmates as part of efforts to give beneficiaries a second chance.

The event featured vocational empowerment in tailoring, barbering, dry cleaning and hairstyling, while inmates were given the opportunity to showcase and sell products they had made. The programme also featured a DJ, providing entertainment for inmates in what the foundation described as a memorable celebration within the custodial centre.

Speaking on the foundation's mission, Agbor said the initiative reflected her belief that people should not be defined solely by their past, but should be given opportunities to rebuild their lives with dignity and purpose.

“Everyone deserves an opportunity to start again. Our mission is to remind people behind custodial walls that their lives still have value and that their past does not have to determine their future. Through rehabilitation, skills acquisition, empowerment and the support of partners, we want to help them prepare for a better tomorrow,” she said.

In recognition of their contributions to the success of the initiative, the foundation presented awards to sponsors, partners, media organisations and other supporters whose involvement helped deliver the programme.

Among those honoured were Hogis Group, Kay Jay Benevolent Charity Foundation, Daisy Oak Foundation, FAD FM, CRBC, BTA TV, Bishop Prof. Margaret Ene Ita, CHIEF BLESSING AGOFURE,

DR IKECHUKWU  UKWEH, Queen Ofuray, Ankara Beauty, RCCG Zion Sanctuary, Pastor Adeniji Adewale, JAGA's Nation and Emem Udominyang, project lead of Aboki's Water Falls International Green Marathon.

The foundation said the awards were intended to recognise the collective efforts of individuals and organisations committed to humanitarian service, rehabilitation and social impact.

It noted that sustainable humanitarian programmes required collaboration among private organisations, public institutions, media partners and individuals willing to invest their resources and time in improving the lives of vulnerable people.

In a related development, Agbor and her team visited the Cross River State Tourism Bureau, where discussions resulted in the acceptance of a partnership between the bureau and the foundation.

The Managing Director of the bureau, Mr Utsu John Atsu, commended Agbor for her humanitarian activities and commitment to supporting vulnerable members of society.

As a gesture of goodwill, Atsu presented the actress with a customised Cross River State Monopoly game, highlighting the state's identity and serving as a memento of the engagement.

The partnership is expected to create opportunities for collaboration between humanitarian initiatives and tourism development, cultural promotion, community engagement and other social impact activities across the state.

The engagement marks a step towards broadening the foundation's reach by connecting its rehabilitation and empowerment programmes with institutions and organisations that can support its long-term objectives.

Agbor also visited the Cross River State Commissioner for Information, Pastor Ekpenyong Cobham, who commended her humanitarian efforts and the foundation's commitment to rehabilitation, empowerment and creating second chances for people in custodial facilities.

The commissioner acknowledged the importance of initiatives that promote human dignity and support efforts to help vulnerable individuals rebuild their lives.

The visits form part of the foundation's broader efforts to strengthen relationships with government institutions, corporate organisations, media outlets and community stakeholders to improve the reach and sustainability of its programmes.

For the foundation, the recognition of its sponsors and partners, alongside the newly established tourism partnership, represents an opportunity to build on the impact of the Afokang initiative and develop further interventions for people who need support.

From vocational training and empowerment to stakeholder engagement and institutional collaboration, the Queeneth Agbor Strength Beyond Walls Foundation continues to promote rehabilitation and reintegration as important elements of humanitarian service.

The foundation maintains that its mission extends beyond a birthday celebration, focusing instead on helping people regain confidence, acquire practical skills and access opportunities to rebuild their lives.

Through continued partnerships and community engagement, it hopes to extend its second-chance message beyond custodial walls and reach more vulnerable people across Cross River State.
